Donor FAQs
You can support legal services for low-income Texans by making a personal gift or by helping us connect with those you know who may also be interested in access to justice. Your gift and kind introductions can make a difference in the life of someone in a time of urgent need.
You can donate by making a tax-deductible gift of cash, securities, or other instruments. Cash can be given by check, money order, or by using our online giving portal with a credit or debit card, using the ACH feature, Venmo, or PayPal.
Depending on the campaign or event you are supporting, the gift will be designated to the specific work stated in the materials related to that campaign.
For example—
Dallas’ Equal Access to Justice Campaign supports the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, a partnership between Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas and the Dallas Bar Association, providing legal services to eligible Dallas County residents with pro bono attorney volunteers.
Our Women’s Advocacy Awards, Builders of Justice Awards, Trivia Night, and any other events that Legal Aid sponsors go into general funds and are used to support the work of Legal Aid wherever those funds are needed most.
Volunteer FAQs
There is about one legal aid lawyer for every 7,000 Texans who qualify for services, so we are always in need of more volunteers to provide counsel or representation. We also welcome paralegals, students, and interested community members who want to help at outreach events or legal clinics.
Once you submit an interest form, one of our volunteer coordinators will reach out to you for next steps. This will include determining your local office, what areas of law interest you, and your availability to help. Our volunteer attorneys attend civil legal clinics, mentor new attorneys, or take cases pro bono.
We handle only civil law matters, such as foreclosure prevention, landlord-tenant issues, family law, public benefits, consumer issues including identity theft and bankruptcy, veterans’ rights, domestic abuse, sexual abuse and assault, and post-disaster assistance.
As an attorney volunteer, you can help by interviewing prospective clients at local clinics, taking cases for representation, or providing legal advice and counsel.
