Lubbock Office Priorities & Community Involvement
The Lubbock office of Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas enjoys strong partnerships with many community groups and organizations. For more than 20 years our office has conducted monthly intake clinics at St. John’s United Methodist Church and Mae Simmons Community Center. These clinics are staffed by volunteers from the Lubbock Area Bar Association and Texas Tech University School of Law.
With 13 counties in our service area, the Lubbock office receives a high volume of applications for legal help. We are fortunate to partner with the civil and family law clinics at Texas Tech University School of Law as well as the numerous volunteer attorneys who support our pro bono program by accepting cases for representation.
Our office participates regularly in outreach and community education events with organizations such as VetStar, Lubbock Independent School District, and the South Plains Homeless Consortium, and in annual events such as veteran stand downs to help us serve veterans’ needs and the Lubbock Pride Festival to help us address civil legal issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community.
Lubbock also has a separate Legal Aid Pro Se Assistance (LAPSA) office that is located near the Lubbock County Courthouse. The LAPSA office provides limited services to pro se litigants to help them navigate the court system and enjoys support from local courts, clerks, and other county offices. The LAPSA attorney helps litigants by reviewing court pleadings and orders to ensure that they comply with state law and local rules, and conducts monthly education seminars in conjunction with the Lubbock County Law Library and county libraries in surrounding communities.
Our staff attorneys are active in the community and are members of the Lubbock Area Bar Association, the Lubbock County Women Lawyers Association, and the South Plains Homeless Consortium.
