Amarillo Office Priorities & Community Involvement
The Amarillo office of Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas has significant connections with community partners in its 20-county service area. LANWT staff provide training on common legal issues for local agencies and to the public. Our team members participate in local coalitions such as the Continuum of Care, the Amarillo Domestic Violence Coalition, Freedom in the 806 (an anti-trafficking coalition), and the Sexual Assault Response Team, and they frequently participate in resource fairs like Aging Unbound, hosted by the Area Agency on Aging, and the DFPS/St. Francis resource fair for foster and kinship care case workers.
The Amarillo office hosts an annual community law conference that offers community legal education presentations on a broad variety of civil legal issues. This popular event is free and open to the public.
Our office also works jointly with several community partners who accept applications for civil legal help at their agencies including Family Support Services in Amarillo, Tralee Crisis Center in Pampa, and Veterans Affairs (all by appointment only).
Our staff attend local community partner fundraisers such as the NAACP Freedom Fund, Family Support Services Harley Party, Downtown Women’s Center annual fundraiser, and the annual Beans and Cornbread luncheon, a kickoff event for the Interfaith Campaign for the Homeless.
