Legal Advocacy for Young Adults and Children (LAYAC) Project
Project Overview
The Legal Advocacy for Young Adults and Children (LAYAC) Project provides legal support to young adults and children with health conditions as well as foster youth transitioning into adulthood. The LAYAC Project staff help clients gain and maintain access to public benefits, navigate healthcare preparation through guardianships and other supports, and overcome barriers to housing, employment, and education. If you wish to apply or want to know more, please contact our LAYAC line at 214-556-5709.
The LAYAC Project also includes a Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) component. In conjunction with Children’s Medical Center (CMC) and UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, the MLP collaborates with hospital staff to identify patient needs, provides legal services via referral to patients, offers legal resources and educational opportunities for hospital staff, and works to establish and maintain a community network of pro bono attorneys.
